Cause Of Stress

Stress is an unavoidable part of life. Teenagers today have so much more to worry about then teenagers just twenty years ago. Teen stress if very, very common.

One of the most common causes of teen stress is peer pressure. There is overwhelming pressure to fit in, and teenagers may be tempted to do whatever is necessary to do so. Teenagers want so greatly to be liked, and acceptance by their peers is no easy feat.

Drugs, alcohol, relationships, everywhere teenagers turn there are important decisions to be made. They may hear one thing from parents and another from peers. Add to this the stress of choosing a plan for adulthood, including career choice and the option of college.

So what can teens do to help relieve some of this stress?

First, teens need to recognize that they are not alone Teen stress is a very common thing, and talking about their feelings with a therapist, peer, parents, etc., can help them feel a lot better. They do not need to carry this around on their own.

If a situation feels overwhelming, try breaking the problem down, into more sizable pieces. Deal with things one at a time, rather then the whole situation at once.

Find appropriate ways to relieve your stress. Take breaks. Engage in a physical activity. Not all problems need to be solved in a day. The important thing is to keep moving forward and remember that you are in control of your stress, not the other way around
